SCREENINGS AND TICKETS
Estonia in the heart of summer 2023. Ten cultural figures in magenta costumes walk on the world's longest fashion catwalk through small towns and dusty village roads towards Paris. Only instead of the Eiffel Tower, they see the riding stable of the village of the same name in Lääne-Virumaa. “MANIA GRANDIOSA” is a poetic, heartfelt and humorous documentary about ambition, the future of fashion, the worries and joys associated with it, and social constructions.
Some have stayed, some have gone – everyone has their own story, but a shared question: what does it mean to create fashion today and how to talk about it? The film weaves together behind-the-scenes footage from the world's longest fashion catwalk of the same name in July 2023 and interviews with fashion and culture people working in both Paris and Estonia. The film unravels the narrative of Paris from the perspective of a small country, discussing exclusivity and fashion making in increasingly complex conditions.
“Mania Grandiosa” is both an intimate portrait and a DIY blockbuster, a film about creativity, courage, and what it means to strive for the lights of Paris. The film stars Lilli Jahilo, Katrin Aasmaa, Anne Vetik, Carmen Kremm, Hans Schwarz, Sten Ojavee, and Anu Saagim.
The screening will be introduced by Lisette Sivard and Karl Joonas Alamaa.
The book "Mania Grandiosa" is available at the Estonian Museum of Applied Arts and Design, Kai Art Centre, Estonian Design House, Kogo Gallery, Viuu Eyewear Shop and Foku Gallery.
